2020-21 School Year: LOTTERY REGISTRATION for Science of Baseball STEMADIUM VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP
- Grade Level Fees
- Free
REGISTRATION CLOSED
FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 5, 6, or 7 in the upcoming 2020-2021 School Year
PLEASE NOTE:
We cannot offer the online camps to all who apply. Science of Baseball will use a random lottery to put students into either 2 different camp groups or 1 no camp group. Students who are in the no camp group will be in a group that does not do the Science of Sport lessons, nor do they play the app, but they still receive the gift cards for taking the two surveys online and the STEMadium game app when the camps end. Children in the same family will be in the same group.
Requirements:
- Commit to checking in every day, doing the lessons, and playing the STEMadium game app.
- Have reliable internet access.
- Have a computer or other device to take the 2 online surveys. Students in the camps will get a tablet to use during the camp. (Details to be provided about safely picking up and dropping off the tablet)
- Reminder that this will be a lottery and not all youth will be placed in one of the online camp groups.
All students who take part have a chance to help us improve the STEMadium game app for other students to use. This is a great way to work on math and science skills!

STEMADIUM
SCIENCE OF BASEBALL
VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP
What is
the STEMadium Camp?
The National Institutes of Health has
given dfusion Inc. and Science of Sport a grant to develop a gaming
app called STEMadium. The app uses sports to teach math and
science skills in a format youth will like. ETR is helping to test
the game app online over the summer. We want to find
out if youth like and will use the game app and if it improves
their math and science skills and interests.
Why did we
develop STEMadium?
- Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
skills help youth get and keep a good and
secure job.
- Not enough young people have
STEM skills and interests to fill current jobs that use these skills.
- We want to help youth improve their STEM skills and
increase interest in STEM jobs.
More
about STEMadium
STEMadium is based on topics taught from
the Science of Sport Curriculum. Science of
Sport developed Science of Baseball curriculum for middle school
students. The curriculum aligns with state specific math and
science standards.
How does
the "camp" work?
Students entering grades 5-7 in Fall 2020 who
live in Compton can apply to take part in a 3-week
summer "camp". The camp meets online 4 days a
week. Each day, students in the
camp will meet at 9 am in a secure online classroom with
the teacher and other students to get directions for the day. Then all students
will complete lessons on their own. The lessons may be related to science,
math, or player development physical fitness activities. Some of the
activities may need parent help. Students will have another short meeting
with the teacher and then play the STEMadium game app
on their own (if chosen to be in the group with the app). There are
2 different camp formats.
All students will take two short online
surveys. They will receive a $15 Amazon gift card for finishing the first
survey and a $20 Amazon gift card for finishing the second survey. Also, all
students (in either of the 2 different "camps") will get the
STEMadium game app to use after the camp ends.
